Software Architect
About the Role
As a Software Architect, you define the technical direction for complex software platforms at enterprise clients in South Holland. You divide your time between the Rotterdam office and on‑site work with development teams, where you translate business strategy into architectures that are clean, scalable, and future‑proof. You work across the full spectrum of modern cloud‑native development — domain‑driven design, microservices, event‑driven patterns — and make the trade‑offs (cost, complexity, time‑to‑market, and operational reality) transparent.
Beyond diagrams and decision records, you coach engineering teams, lead architecture reviews, and act as the bridge between CTOs and the developers who actually write the code. You feel just as comfortable in a boardroom defending a roadmap as you do in a pull request reviewing a service boundary. Your future employer is a Dutch software consultancy with deep roots in Rotterdam and a portfolio spanning logistics, energy, and financial services.

- 8+ years in software development, with at least 3 years in an architect or lead engineer role
- Deep expertise in .NET or Java, applied in enterprise-scale environments
- Strong cloud-native experience on Azure or AWS — relevant certifications are a plus
- Solid grasp of domain-driven design, microservices, event-driven patterns, and integration architectures
- Proven experience leading and mentoring development teams across multiple projects
- Comfortable presenting and defending architectural decisions at C-level and in pre-sales conversations
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience
- Fluent Dutch and English — Dutch is essential for direct client work in this region
