Senior Backend Developer
About the Role
As a Senior Backend Developer, you will join a rapidly growing e-commerce organization in the 's-Hertogenbosch area, operating international webshops across the Netherlands, Belgium, and France. The entire platform and its core back-end operations have been custom-built from scratch in-house. Within an engineering team of twenty professionals spread across three scrum teams, you will drive the evolution of a scalable microservices ecosystem.
You will work with a robust stack powered by PHP, C#, and Go, supported by MySQL, Doctrine, RabbitMQ, Elasticsearch, and Docker. Pull request-driven workflows and peer reviews are central to the development cycle. Beyond writing clean code, you will take ownership of codebase quality, mentor peers in adopting modern engineering practices, and align technical strategy with team leads and the IT Manager.
The engineering culture is pragmatic, ambitious, and tightly knit. Beyond technical challenges, the team values social connection, organizing LAN parties, gaming sessions, and regular team gatherings alongside informal drinks.
- At least 5 years of professional experience as a Backend Developer in complex web environments
- Strong proficiency in OOP using PHP, C#, or Go
- Hands-on experience with Doctrine, Elasticsearch, RabbitMQ, and Docker
- Deep understanding of software architecture, microservices, package management, and Git workflows
- Working knowledge of frontend fundamentals (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
- Excellent communication skills to articulate architectural decisions to team leads and engineering management
